World AIDS Day 2009
On December 4, YAP hosted our 14th Annual World AIDS Day Benefit at the Wingate. More than 200 people – clients, supporters and friends – attended. Net proceeds exceeded all prior years which will enable us to continue our efforts to support our client family, and also to do all we can to prevent future infections.
It’s important to recognize and thank all of those who made this event so successful: the staff of YAP who did such a great job of organizing the benefit; all of our event sponsors; The Wingate for providing such a fine venue as well as sponsoring the cost of Jeanne’s room; Marci Tatarka and Beyond Basil for the superb food and wine and a generous in kind donation; Cliff Potts for his wonderful artwork; Doug Stuart for his beautiful music; those who contributed to the silent auction; and all of our supporters who spent the evening with us.
The highlight of the evening was listening to our guest speaker – Jeanne White-Ginder – take us through the difficult path she and her family traveled as her son Ryan, fought and eventually succumbed to AIDS. It was very difficult to hear, but it’s essential that we all realize the history behind this terrible disease and the challenges in dealing with a sometimes ill-informed public, in order to better combat the disease.
Again – a huge “Thank You” to everyone who made this evening so rewarding. “Until There’s A Cure”, we will continue to fight every aspect of AIDS – and hope and Pray that someday we can say: “do you remember when . . .”.
