Positively Moving Youth Contest
November 7th, 2008, Venture Theatre at 7pm.
Application due October 24th, 2008.
In honor of the history, progress, and courageous fight of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, the Yellowstone AIDS Project is sponsoring the first ever “Positively Moving” Youth Contest for Billings area high school students. Students have the opportunity to create a spoken word or performance piece inspired by HIV/AIDS for a cash prize.
Rules and Regulations
The contest is open to high school students, grades 9-12. Contestants may perform individually or in a group up to 10 people. Contestants will develop a creative work inspired by any aspect of HIV/AIDS. This work can take the following forms:
Spoken word - a poem, essay, music/lyrics or short
story lasting no less than 2 minutes and no more than 5 minutes.
Creative Performance - dance, theatrical, or instrumental piece
lasting no less than 2 minutes and no more than 5 minutes.
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
Overall impact (10 points) - does the piece provoke an emotional or thoughtful response? Was it executed well? Was the message clear?
Originality (10 points) - is the piece unique and compelling? Did it stand out from the other entries? Has it been done before?
Relevance (5 points) - does the piece convey the theme of HIV/AIDS? Did the contestant establish a relation to the theme, whether explicit or implied?
Realness (5 points) - does the entry tell a story, convey real emotion or express an original idea?
General Terms and Conditions
Contest - each contestant or group of contestants will perform the piece before a panel of judges November 7th, 2008, at Venture Theater at 7 p.m. Contestants will receive a score between 0 and 30 for overall impact, originality, relevance and realness. The contestant(s) with the highest total score will be named the winner. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the panel of judges.
Prizes - Three cash prizes will be awarded. The first place winner(s) will receive one $300 cash prize, second place will receive one $125 cash prize, and third place will receive one $75 cash prize.
Winners - The winners will be announced immediately following the contest and will be presented with their prizes on November 21st, 2008 at the Yellowstone AIDS Project’s “Simply Elegant” benefit. Contestants receiving first, second, and third place will perform their piece at the benefit held at The Perfect Place in Billings, Montana on November 21st, 2008. In order for the prize to be awarded, winners must attend and perform at the benefit.
The Entrant(s), must be the sole author(s) of the entry and must have permission to use or incorporate the various elements that constitute the entry. Use of images, music, and other works in the public domain is allowed. However, materials that infringe on the rights of any third party may not be used. Works containing explicit content (words, photographs, graphics, lyrics, lewd acts will be disqualified. The Yellowstone AIDS Project is not responsible for late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, incomprehensible, or unintelligible entries.) Incomplete entries are not eligible.
Entrant by entering affirms: that he/she has all right to the material included in the entry including without limitation any and all images, photographs, or written materials, and that the Entry does not, to the best of Entrant’s knowledge, (including what Entrant should know or have known in the exercise of reasonable prudence) violate the copyright of any person or entity, or defame or infringe upon any rights of any kind of, including the right of privacy, or any person or entity.
By entering, Entrants agree that the Yellowstone AIDS Project (YAP), its governing board, employees, agents and representatives, affiliates, subsidiaries, are not responsible or liable for, and shall be released and held harmless from: (i) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of YAP that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest; (iv) any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with or resulting from participation in the Contest, or acceptance of the prize, including without limitation, claims based on copyright infringement, publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy.
YAP reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel Contest at any time including but not limited to instances where a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper conduct of the Contest. Or where the facility, equipment, or other operational malfunction prevents the conduct of the Contest. Entrant hereby understands that he/she is responsible for all costs, related to participation in the Contest and any expenses, damages and claims related thereto.
By submitting the Entry, Entrant assigns the following limited rights in perpetuity to YAP. YAP retains these rights to any submission even if the submission is disqualified on specific technical grounds that do not render it illegal to distribute, or it is not presented. Submission of the materials constitutes a Limited Assignment of Copyright rights as follows: YAP may print and publish, reprint, and produce the Entry, develop the Entry for other media, and adapt the Entry for any use associated with YAP’s strategic plan and promotions.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these General Terms and Conditions or the rights and obligations of Entrant and YAP in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Montana, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of Montana or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than Montana.
