Positively Moving Youth Contest
November 7th, 2008, Venture Theatre at 7pm.
Application due October 24th, 2008.
Much has changed since the early 1980s when the United States was first introduced to HIV/AIDS. At that time, the disease was considered a death sentence. Medical treatment was expensive, limited and so harsh to the body that the side effects were at times worse than the disease itself.
But now there’s hope. Thanks to medical advancements, people living with HIV/AIDS now have access to care that allows them to manage the disease and live longer, fuller, healthier lives. Many organizations, celebrities and passionate citizens have dedicated themselves to educating people about the disease, helping to prevent transmission and to promote tolerance.
In honor of the history, progress, and courageous fight of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, the Yellowstone AIDS Project is sponsoring the first ever “Positively Moving” Youth Contest for Billings area high school students. Students have the opportunity to create a spoken word or performance piece inspired by HIV/AIDS for a cash prize.
The contest will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 at Venture Theater at 7 p.m. and is open to friends and family of all contestants. The awards will be given at the Simply Elegant event on November 21st, 2008 - first place winner will receive a $300 cash prize, second place will receive $125 and third place will receive $75. Applications must be received no later than October 24, 2008 for the student to be eligible to participate. For more details, please review the attached materials.
Be bold! Be creative! This is your chance to showcase your talents and inspire others about an issue that continues to impact millions of people every year. We look forward to your performance.
